Geoff’s Cricketing Poker Jokers are Kings of the Castle!
Bantham Exiles geoff.cc sponsored “PokerJokers” fielded a strong side featuring former West Indies captain and cricketing legend Jimmy Adams. Batting first the Exiles posted a challenging score of 213 from their allotted overs with Jimmy Adams retiring on 67, ably supported by a brutal display of power hitting from Matt Hoadley who also retired after a splendid 63.
It was truly a day of “firsts” as the Exiles handed first appearances for two women cricketers: Lizzie Philp and Amy Harrington. When CHCC set about their innings, Exiles skipper Andrew Fitch-Holland had no hesitation in calling upon the duo to open the bowling attack. The girls duly obliged ripping through the CHCC top order with Harrington taking 2 wickets and Philp 3. Castle Hedingham mounted a fight back however, with Andrew Newton playing some fine attacking shots to top score on 46. The Exiles stayed strong in the field however, with 2 particularly fine slip catches from Jimmy Allan and masterly spin bowling from Tim Allen who took 2 wickets and conceded just 5 runs in his 2 over spell. Jimmy Adams was finally brought on to bowl and cleaned up the tailenders, taking the last 2 wickets for a miserly 2 runs in just 6 balls to see the home side skittled out for 132 with 4 overs to spare.
Jimmy Adams enjoyed his day saying “its been a great day, played at a really pretty ground with some fun cricket. I was particularly impressed with the girls who are really showing some true cricket skills, at this rate I might not make the team next year!”
